I sometimes envy Hamish, he's always happy and mostly gets to do what he likes doing all day and sleeps wherever and whenever he wants. He has amazing friends (and quite fantastic owners too). Vizslas are notoriously energetic and he has his moments but he also has a very calm side to his nature which is very lucky for us. He is always cosy in bed and can't wait to get in at night and in the morning he's quite glad of the snooze button on the alarm. I mean look at him sleep.....zzzzzzzzzzzz in the bed, zzzzzzzzz at the bus stop and zzzzzzzzzz on the floor on the bus.
Radio and Hamish are really really good friends now, you'd better get out the way of the stampede when they meet up or else...excited is not the word - even by Vizsla standards . YIKES!
Sometimes they even lie down together at the same time (ok,not often).
Radio even taught Hamish how to swim.
My god though when he gets hold of that ball.....
Went for a walk along the canal and Hamish wanted to go in for a dip.
Today a cat dared to cut across Hamish's garden. He was stunned into walking on tip toes so silently amazed and bewildered. It soon got the message and scarpered.
Today the weather was fantastic and we decided to have a picnic in the park (along with everyone else in the whole world). Not really as relaxing as it sounds with a Vizsla puppy who forgot he ever learned a single recall today. Selective hearing was the order of the day as he pinched first some gammon off my plate then further afield for a piece of cake from the people next to us, then he went for a wander out of the park looking for Steven who'd just popped to the loo in the pub. And later got his chops around some blue cheese and chicken. However, we did make lots of new friends and bumped into some old ones too. This is Bailey Hamish's first and best friend from London Fields (apart from Radio of course). Bailey is a pup too so they really have a good old roll around together and can play quite rough without anyone worrying. Aparently Bailey goes to his front door and whines if anyone mentions Hamish's name.
Then a lovely girl called Tenesha came over to say hello to Hamish and she really, really loved him and she's going to add him to her list of favourite breeds of dogs. I told her to catch up with him on this blog so I hope she's reading this - Hi Tenesha I hope you like your photo with Hamish.
We thought this might be a sign of things to come and that he'd take to standing still easily for the judges at shows...not so at all. Hamish just thought ringcraft class was wicked torture. How could we take him into a room filled with potential new best friends and not let him play with anyone? Well, he just wriggled, pulled and whined for the whole time and went home very frustrated. They say it takes time to get used to it but we still aren't convinced that there's any pleasure in it for the dogs...? I'm willing to see it differently if anyone with better experience can explain why people bother to show?
What is this white stuff? After a brief initial hesitation Hamish loved the snow, but not for long as he hates the cold.
This was taken on one of Hamish's first walks after his injections.

Yet more photos of Hamish documenting his rise to youth. One at about 3-4months and the other at nearly 6months on his first trip to the Beach at Dungeness.
He was adorable to look at but a real torag with shark teeth. Those first few weeks were a real nightmare and I learned a lot about my tolerance levels and soon realised that I wasn't as calm a person as I thought I was.
But the cuddles were just fantastic and justified everything. Heaven is...a sleeping vizsla puppy on your lap on the sofa (as long as they don't snore so loud you can't hear the tv and start chasing rabbits).
Ok, so I've finally had to give in and start our own blog as Radio's owners got fed up posting our pictures for us. Hamish is six months and one week old now so I've got a lot of photos to post to get us up to speed.......Four months ago Hamish waved goodbye to his first home in Norfolk, and came with us, to our home in London Fields in Hackney. This is he way back then, little 'shark teeth' as he soon became known.
Hamish had to be sedated at the Vet today to have some x-rays taken of his nose which has been runny for a while now and has now started bleeding as well. We think he has an infection, but best to be sure. He was still staggering when he got home but wanted to play with his Mr. Chicken so much that he fell asleep with it in his mouth. Aaaaah, Sweetness!
Today we went to the HVC field trials with Andea, Lasse and Radio and we met Charlie, Steve and Sally for the first time and too many others to mention. A great day out but dreadful weather. Hamish did well but as usual preferred wrestling to working. Looking though today's pictures coming back in the car, I said to Steven 'would you have believed me if a year ago I'd told you that we would become such doggie people?' Yes, life with a dog has many surprises and we're having a lot of fun.
WARNING! Everything you read here will be hugely biased from the perspective of loved up vizla puppy owners.
Hamish is a Hungarian Vizsla and was born on 21st November 2006. We call him Hamish McKahn in salutation to his noble Sire who is called Kahn, and so Hamish (Mc = son of in Scottish) the son of Kahn. His pedigree name is Paddock End Merely a Secret (though he's no secret you could keep under wraps for long). His nickname is Mr. Wiggly since his whole rear end wiggles from side to side when he wags his tail (which is every two minutes).
Of course we're mad about him, but he is VERY handsome, bright and a cheeky wee bugger with loads of personality. He loves squeeky toys, nearly all dogs (apart from one Jack Russell who dragged him around by the jowels) and all people. He also loves eating, jumping up to say hello (I know we're trying), swimming, chewing and sleeping, especially on the sofa with us and on the bed when he's allowed up. He hates being left alone and the noise of the bin men emptying bottles into their lorry. He is very nosey and will follow you from room to room to see what's going on even if he has to wake himself up to do it.
