Well, it's been a while and we've had a cracking summer even if the weather has been a let down. I've tried for ages to put a slideshow together with 'slide' on the blog but it seems not to be compatible with my Mac so here's the link if you'd like to see the first installment of our photos:
Since Hamish discovered chasing sheep as a pastime in Wales, we have had to be super-vigilant when out on rural walks and the Lake District is a superior challenge in this respect. However we did a lot of work on it and let's say he's on very friendly terms with our woolly friends as long as they don't make any sudden movements.
The scenery is something to behold as you can see and the walking is second to none of course. We could literally take any direction from our farm cottage and find a stunning view within minutes.
We were very, very fortunate to finally meet the beautiful Redgirls - the loveliest of which is of course Di who drove 2 and a half hours to come and walk with us. This was a long anticipated moment but all hopes of romance were thwarted when within moments of meeting Hamish had discovered Berta's very interesting rear end (even though she was 2 and a half weeks past her season).
I'm so sorry Berta he was utterly relentless and spoiled your walk. We definitely need to reschedule so that you can see his true character. Still I'm so very, very glad we had the opportunity to meet despite Hamish's rampant libido.
hope you like the pictures and keep your eyes peeled for the return of ROBODOG xxx

Oooh it looks so fab I can't wait to go. Mum wants to know boring stuff like does she have to bring towels or bedlinen. I, on the other hand, want to know the best walks, the best swims and the best pubs for conking out in at the end of all that fun!
Oh what a fab slide show! The places you get to go Hamish. You are one lucky Vizsla
Rocket and Delilah, I am so lazy but finally have put you on our blogroll. We'll be looking in on you more often especially now that there's a lovely girlie around too.
Charlie (and Sally), no need for sheets or towels (well one for drying off soggy doggie helps as it's very damp and muddy up there), the ones provided are quite small but you get enough for four guests. The cottage is very basic and the sitting room extremely uncomfortable, we found it far too small for two big fellas and a cuddly Viz, then our friend arrived for a few days and made it even more cosy. Great location though.
Sheep were a constant concern as they are everywhere - even when you think they're not they are hiding somewhere perhaps round the corner or deep in the ferns (bracken I think you folks call it). If he's anything like Hamish, Charlie will sniff them out. On one occasion three sheep (fast runners by the way) jumped up an embankment and over some other walkers heads to get away from him. There wasn't a lot of opportunity for off leash walking which we found very difficult even though we had made a lot of progress we still couldn't trust him not to chase. And apparently the farmers will shoot them.
This isn't intended to put you off at all because it is the most stunning scenery but a warning that you should start practising now and be prepared for some restiction on Charlie's freedom.
How much fun did you guys have!! Looks great and some fab photos, what a fine young man you have grown into Hamish.
I think you have been very sensible staying on the lead a bit as some farmers wont think twice about removing anything that worries their sheep. As my mum found out last year we red dogs look remarkably the same colour as foxes and can be easily mistaken. Sill pics look fab and nice to see a viz taking over the furniture.... down with beds on the floor.
Z xx ......(this post is from Zala as Rez is poorly at the moment and cant come to the computer)
My dear Hamish - Mz Hat here - and you find me a little hurt. I was SO looking forward to our romantic first date - a bite to eat - a drink or two. Sweet nothings. Maybe even a shy lick or something. And. Oh dear. You didn't even look at me! Not once. You couldn't take your - ahemm -eyes off Bert (and she isn't HALF as pretty as me) Mum says "boys will be boys"
Mz Bert says hiya dude. Sorry I couldn't figure out the rules of that Romance game you wanted to play. Really sorry that I had to keep sitting down to think about it(Hat reminds me that I might have understood more if we'd met up a few weeks ago)
Di says - dear Ross and Steven well I can't really describe how lovely it was to meet you. How can you hug a complete stranger and feel as though you have known them all of your lives? I had such a nice time - did not want to leave. Thank you for such a magic and happy day.
Di says - dear Hamish you are very handsome indeed. Sock it to them at Richmond!
fondest hugs to all XXXXX
They are very nice photos Hamish. It looks nice there - I will ask mum if we can go there. I don't understand humans and their attitude to sheep. I mean it would be like me telling mum she's not allowed to drink wine or something. It's just not right. Ho hum.
hrm, so sheep is like wine. Mum and me are shaking our heads worriedly ;-) We have a long lead and I am doing really well at my recall these days so hopefully all will be ok. Also the farmer said that the sheep will mainly be down in the valleys at that time so hopefully we will be ok on the hills! Mum thinks we will have to invest in a harness like yours too!
Glad you had such a lovely time and we will plan to do much lazing in bed if the seats are a bit uncomfy! Just need to persuade them that bed is made for Vizslas too?
