Hamish got up close and purrrrrsonal with our neighbours black cat this afternoon. He was very interested but only wanted to make friends. He's in training for when he gets his bengal kitten chum so he'd better be good or we may change our minds.
Oooh ooh ooh - I have two Bengal pals. Well, one of them is kindof my friend - he did rub all over me when he was waiting for his breakfast the other morning which was...well..a bit odd really. I didn't know what to do with myself. The other one is a bit scared of me - I can't think why - I just charge over to say hello and she runs away.
Oh Charlie, tell me more...should we get a boy or a girl kitten for Hamish? Are they really as friendly as dogs and follow you everywhere like Vizslas? Are they really not allowed outside on their own? Do you think a Bengal is a good choice as a playmate for our wee Hamish.
Your getting a kitten. I am so jelous. Wish I had a puddy cat to play with - they aren't as scary as dogs! In my mum's experience with cats (not bengals mind) she has found males to be more laid back and trusting whilst females to be a bit temperamental. Our male cat is scared of dogs but is easier to settle with them whilst our female is just down right nasty to them if they come near. Both were however adults before we got the dogs.
Oh they are supposed to be great cats from what I see. According to the humans Oscar used to go walkies on a lead for miles. He is fearless. He certainly takes me on. The girl one is a bit more scaredy though and a lot smaller. Oscar was sold as an 'indoor' cat but when they got their first garden he escaped. And has ruled the neighbourhood ever since. He's the daddy.
Hello Hamish,Anthony likes cats,he keeps saying something about Ziggy, whoever that is.I like cats too, today I tried to get Tiggy to play with me but Tiggy did not like that and I was called away.Dylan was not called away but he wished he had been when he found out just how much Tiggy did not want to play.We were all very careful after we had seen what Tiggy did to Dylan.Anthony says he will put some pictures of us with Tiggy in my blog when he gets time.
It seems the whole of Vizsla blogworld has a cat friend apart from Hamish (well they don't all sound that friendly actually). Hmmmm not convinced by the general consensus that it'll keep him company. He's still rubbish at staying home alone and cries and cries. I hoped that a cat might help him cope better??? Yes? No? Please advise.
Well it may or may not work depending on the kitten. Perhaps try and find a breeder that also owns dogs so that the kitten is already used to them and you can choose the one which is confident around them. It also depends on hamish some dogs like cats as though they are dogs whilst others behave completely differently.
The only way to find out is to get one but the decision to get one I think should not be just for accompany hamish.
Thanks Ziggi, I would like to have a cat for the house anyway. Also we have mice in our new house and hope that a cat would get rid of them. Hamish loves Andrea's Kitten and they play really well together for hours so that's a start. It's a good point about the kitten already being socialised with dogs too. That may be more difficult though.
Mum does some silly dominance stuff with me that is supposed to make me happier when she goes out. Things like ignoring me when they come home for a few mins until I settle.
Sounds like you'll have great fun with a kitten. My two Bengal pals are top mousers too!
WARNING! Everything you read here will be hugely biased from the perspective of loved up vizla puppy owners.
Hamish is a Hungarian Vizsla and was born on 21st November 2006. We call him Hamish McKahn in salutation to his noble Sire who is called Kahn, and so Hamish (Mc = son of in Scottish) the son of Kahn. His pedigree name is Paddock End Merely a Secret (though he's no secret you could keep under wraps for long). His nickname is Mr. Wiggly since his whole rear end wiggles from side to side when he wags his tail (which is every two minutes).
Of course we're mad about him, but he is VERY handsome, bright and a cheeky wee bugger with loads of personality. He loves squeeky toys, nearly all dogs (apart from one Jack Russell who dragged him around by the jowels) and all people. He also loves eating, jumping up to say hello (I know we're trying), swimming, chewing and sleeping, especially on the sofa with us and on the bed when he's allowed up. He hates being left alone and the noise of the bin men emptying bottles into their lorry. He is very nosey and will follow you from room to room to see what's going on even if he has to wake himself up to do it.

Enjoy your little friend when you get him or her

Hope that makes sense!
